Vancouver Winter Olympics 2010

I’m recovering back home in Aspen after a winter spent snowboard racing and training on the road and two awesome weeks at the Olympics in Vancouver. It has been so much fun! It was another great Olympic experience for me. The race was a tough one, but I enjoyed the ride. We got close to another medal and I’m proud of that. The conditions couldn’t have been much more challenging. Going up the lift to inspect the Olympic course I asked my coach Rob Roy if he’d ever seen anything like it and he replied, “Not even close.” It was a race we will never forget. I texted Missy the night before the race after having been at Cypress that day for the women’s race, instructing her to “Prepare for tomorrow as if you’re going salmon fishing in a monsoon.” It wasn’t far off. The Klug Fan Club definitely won Gold; they were awesome. I couldn’t have done it without ‘em. I’ve never seen it rain so hard on a mountain in the winter. I knew it was going to be tough; I was determined to show up with a positive attitude no matter how ugly it was and fight hard to make the most of it. I think that attitude helped me persevere through the difficulties. It’s easy to set into a negative attitude and complain about the conditions – I was committed not to let that happen. It paid off and we finished 7th. Of course I’m a little bummed being that close to winning another medal, but at the same time I was so proud to be there representing my country again and having the chance to help share the organ donation message. I’m really happy for Jacey Jay, Karl and Bozzetto, nice to see the veterans on the podium.
I walked in the Closing Ceremonies with my coach Rob and my teammates. I’m sad it’s all over. I’m already suffering Olympic withdrawals. I’m relaxing at home, battling a cold I got from over celebrating after my event. Next week I’m headed back to Europe to race two final World Cups in Valmalenco, Italy and La Molina, Spain. They are two of my favorite stops. Hopefully it will be spring-like weather. I can’t take any more rain. I’d like to finish the season strong and find the podium in these next two races. I’m going to return to Colorado and race Nationals at Steamboat Springs, CO March 26th and 27th. I hope to see you there. My 10th Annual Aspen Spring Snowboard Camp 2010 is April 2-4th. It’s going to be a lot of fun. I always enjoy wrapping up the season by hosting my camp and sharing my experience and passion for snowboarding with others. I hope you can make it!
Thank you for all your support this season. I’m really proud of what we’ve accomplished. It has been a fun ride. Talk to you soon,
