7th Annual Aspen Summit for Life 2012

On Saturday, December 8, 2012 four hundred racers hiked 3267 vertical feet, 2.5 miles at night, from Gondola Plaza in Aspen, Colorado all the way to the Sundeck on top of Aspen Mountain in a winter blizzard that snowed almost a foot throughout the night, in support of the Chris Klug Foundation and life-saving organ donation. Racers of all abilities and ages including transplant recipients, and donor families celebrated life together and helped raise $120000 for organ donation awareness. At the summit racers and supporters enjoyed dinner by The Little Nell, Paradise Bakery desserts, Budweiser, and a live concert by the “Mile Markers,” and an awards party and raffle. Congratulations to our 2012 S4L Champions John Gaston and Janelle Smiley and Chris Lechuga our 2012 Michael Wells Inspirational Award Winner. 466 hikers registered, 399 actually showed up, and another 77 gondola riders rode to the top. 12 transplant recipients took part in the race. Thank you to our 80 volunteers, our 1200 pledge contributors, and our all of our sponsors and partners for making the 7th Annual Aspen Summit for Life 2012 a great success! It enables CKF to continue the mission of eliminating the wait for the 117000 waiting today for a second chance at life. Thank you to Matt Hobbs with Vital Films for capturing and editing this years action. Thank you also to our S4L’12 coordinator Holly Upper for doing an awesome job. See you Saturday, December 7, 2013 for the 8th Annual Aspen Summit for Life …
