X-Games Nine

It was a tough weekend at the X-Games for me at my home in Aspen. I broke my collarbone in the Boardercross Qualifier on Friday. I had surgery on Saturday morning at Aspen Valley Hospital. My good friend Dr. Tom Pevny, same Doc. that fixed my knee in ’98, put my collarbone back together with a metal plate and eight screws. He’s the best! It was a perfect repair and I should be good in about six weeks. As far as injuries go it’s not that bad, a lot better than a torn up knee or a hammered shoulder. It will heal and I’ll bounce back faster than ever! I always comeback stronger! My best seasons have been following injuries. It’s pretty bad timing though for this season. I’m really disappointed. Maybe I shouldn’t have been messing around with the X-Games Boardercross. It’s deadly and claimed many of my friends this year, but the fact that it’s in my hometown and I did well last year and had a lot of fun was too alluring. It’s not really my specialty; I wasn’t the fastest rider out there, as there wasn’t a turn in the course, but I gave it my best, overcame some fears and feel I improved overall as a rider. To be honest I was scared shitless of some of the features in the course, but I faced ‘em head on, got better and I’m stoked for it. It just sucks that I got hurt doing it. I was so looking forward to racing in Europe in the weeks ahead and performing well in Bardonecchia, Italy on the 2006 Olympic Hill. I’m told it’s bad luck to win on the Olympic Hill the year before anyway, so I’ll save it for next February.I’m healing fast at home in Aspen. My friends and family are keeping me busy. The good news is I’ll be in the US for Saturn’s National Donor Day February 14th, Valentines Day, of which I’m the spokesperson for. It’s the single largest donation drive. I’ll be traveling around the country helping to spread the life-saving message of organ and tissue donation, working to help over 87,000 people on waiting lists across our country. Please consider being an organ donor; the need is great. I’m here today because of one. I’ll also be getting ready for our5th Annual Burton-Klug Spring Snowboard Camp held on Buttermilk Mtn. April 1-3. It’ll be bigger and better than ever this year. I hope you’ll join us. Thanks for checking in. Ride fast for me!
