La Molina, Spain Basque Surf

Last Sunday I raced a World Cup PGS in La Molina, Spain on a hard-core hill. It was a fun challenge. The hill is steeper and slicker than the Palmer Snowfield on Mt. Hood at Seven O’Clock on a summer morning, definitely the toughest race hill this season. I was stoked with my riding going into the race and feeling fast. I had one of my better runs going on race day, but got ejected, just two gates from the bottom. I was charging. It’s frustrating to feel good, but not get to the finish line. You can’t be in the finals if you don’t get to the finish, but after just coming up short at Sunday River I was going for it. It’s a fine line between being consistent and pushing the envelope so much that you can’t hang in the course. As bummed as I was with the outcome, I’m stoked with my riding and looking forward to World Cup Finals this weekend in Valmalenco, Italy. I’m training in Valmalenco the next few days and racing our final World Cup PGS this Sunday. I’d love to finish strong and I know that I can. This weekend is a new starting gate and I’m fired up to go for it.My friend Gilles Jaquet, former Swiss World Cup ripper and now head Slovenian Coach, and I drove from La Molina to Biarritz, France for a few days of surf after the race. The surf and weather ruled, what a rad place. I’ve always wanted to surf le pays basque. We surfed many of the classic breaks. I scored a few barrels in le Landes.. I enjoyed the French cuisine and cidre. It was a super fun surf trip in-between World Cups. I’m ready to rip this weekend. Enjoy the pics from Spain and Pays Basque surf. I’ll keep ya posted from Valmalenco. Thanks for checking in.CK
