To The Edge And Back

Enjoy the Ride, Don't Take A Turn For Granted

14th Limone Piemonte PGS World Cup

Posted by admin on December 15, 2008 1:16 pm / 0 Comments

I finished fourteenth yesterday in the first parallel giant slalom FIS World Cup of the 2008/2009 season in Limone Piemonte, Italy. I was stoked to be in the finals again, my second in a row this season, but bummed to get bounced in the first round by my friend, Canadian rider Jacey Jay Anderson. Jacey is super strong in banked GS conditions; I knew I had a tough fight, but was optimistic I could prevail. We had a great first run together. I came away with a tenth of a second lead after the first run. I couldn’t hold on in the second run in the red course, and Jacey advanced. It was a challenging day of racing with about a meter of new snow falling during the race. I wasn’t too sure they’d be able to pull off the event, but then again I’ve never seen a FIS World Cup cancelled in all the years. That’s one of the cool things about snowboard competition, the show goes on, no matter what. About two meters of fresh pow fell the past week in Limone. I haven’t seen it snow like this in Europe since I’ve been on tour. You could hear avalanche bombs going off during the finals above the race hill. Matt Morrison won the men’s race, with Frenchman Sylvain Dufour second, and Anderson third. It was cool to see Sylvain claim his first World Cup podium. Doris Gunther went back-to-back wins after taking the opener in Landgraaf, Kimi Zakreski also found the podium in second for the first time and German Anke Karstens third. Our team had a solid day with Tyler Jewell and Michelle Gargone fifth, Adam Smith eleventh and me fourteenth. It poured all day today in Cuneo, Italy where we’re staying. We’re road tripping tomorrow to Arosa, Switzerland for a slalom FIS World Cup this Sunday. Hopefully the conditions will be better for racing there. It’s also dumping at home in Aspen. We received almost three feet of snow the past weekend in Aspen. I’m looking forward to returning home for the holiday to ride pow. Thanks for checking in. I’ll keep you posted from Arosa. Enjoy your holiday. Merry Christmas!
