To The Edge And Back

Enjoy the Ride, Don't Take A Turn For Granted

Olang, Italy FIS World Cup

Posted by admin on December 13, 2006 4:23 pm / 0 Comments

I raced a FIS World Cup PGS today in Olang, Italy, one of my favorite race hills. I won here just six months after my liver transpalnt in 2001; it’s a special place for me. Unfortunately I didn’t find the podium today. I had a solid first run, but got off track in the second run and finished 23rd, outside of the top sixteen qualification for the head-to-head finals. I was positioned o.k. going into the second run and went for it, but made some errors coming into the flats that cost me. I love the race hill in Olang, but the snow was challenging today. It was marble like and inconsistent. There hasn’t been much snow in Europe, so I guess we’re lucky to even be racing. Our World Cup in Bad Gastein this weekend has been postponed until possibly the 20th or 21st and the final PGS World Cup of the year in Slovenia has been cancelled due to lack of snow. What a wacky start to the winter in Europe. We will know the final decison this Saturday regarding the Bad Gastein slalom race. I’m either training in Europe the next week in preparation for a World Cup slalom or returing home to Aspen this weekend. I’ll keep you posted. Enjoy the photo from today’s race below.

The Aspen Summit for Life uphill snowshoe race and donor awareness celebration Dec. 2nd was a huge success. 229 hikers joined us for the nighttime uphill event up Aspen Mtn. and another two hundred rode the gondola to the top for the after-race party. We raised over $75,000 and helped spread the message of life-saving donation. I was hoping in our first year not to lose money and have more participants at the party, than just Missy and I, so I’m stoked. Thanks to all our volunteers and sponsors and to everyone that joined us this year to make it such an overwhelming success. We’ll be back next December even stronger. Enjoy the photos. I’ll keep you posted from Europe. Thanks for your support!
